Richdrill HDD What Products Do They Make? A No-Nonsense Guide from a Guy Who Sells Them

If we were standing next to a rig with coffees in our hands, this is the answer I’d give you.

I have been with Richdrill HDD for 5 years. And I’ll be honest, when I first started, I thought HDD tooling was just… drill pipe. A threaded steel tube. See. How hard that would be.

Then a foreman called me and said “Can you make a crossover out of a 3.5-inch API Reg box to a 2 3/8 IF pin by Friday?”

HDD Drill Rod

I blinked. I didn’t even know what a box and pin was. That was my first oh no moment.

My second was later, on a job site. The rig was flimsy, but the crew was not trapped. They were stuck due to the drill pipe, reamer, swivel, pulling head not matching. The operator looked at me and said “We don’t need a catalog. We want the whole chain to work.”

That one sentence change my selling. Richdrill HDD doesn’t only make one shiny thing. We manufacture the chain.

What do we get? Here’s the short version without the brochure voice.

Drill Pipes and Drill Rods for HDD

This is the bread and butter. We manufacture Drill Pipes in all sizes, lengths, wall thicknesses and thread types for horizontal directional drilling. Forged. Heat treated. Friction weld. Machined. Inspected. I won’t lie: seeing the process first hand makes you stop thinking of it as “just a pipe.” It’s a torque-bearing, mud-carrying, ground-eating beast.

Tool joints, sub, adapters and crossovers 3

These are the little parts that save big jobs. Crossovers. Saver subs. Bent subs. Adapters. Whatever you call them, they’re the unsung heroes. No one ever says, “Wow, nice crossover. But when it’s over, the whole crew is standing around looking at each other. I’ve seen a $200 part shut down a $20,000-a-day operation.” No exaggeration.

Hole openers and reamers

Fly cutter reamers. Barrel reamers. Rock reamers. Spiral reamers. Fluted reamers. Custom hole openers. This is where the “what are you drilling through?” conversation is really important. Soggy ground? Stone. Pebble. Mixed ground ? You can’t just go for the biggest and hope. I learned this the hard way when a customer ordered a reamer that was way too aggressive for his soil. Let’s just say the rig was pissed. Nor was he.

Pilot bits and drill heads

Carbide, PDC, rock and custom guided bore pilot bits. The pilot bit is the tip of the spear. If it is wrong everything behind it is broken. I’ve had customers send me pictures of worn bits that look like a dinosaur has been chewing on them. It’s my job to ask the right questions before that happens.”

Pulling heads, swivels and pulling accessories

You gotta get the product pipe in the ground without twisting it into a pretzel.” That’s where pulling heads and swivels come in. We manufacture them in a variety of pipe sizes and pull-back loads. Small pieces, big consequences.

Drill Collars, Non-Magnetic Drill Collars, Centralizers and Stabilizers

These help control the bore path and give you weight on bit without losing your mind. Non-magnetic collars are particularly important when you are steering near existing utilities or in survey work. This is not the glamorous side of HDD, I’m not going to pretend that it is. It’s heavy, dirty, and usually covered in mud. But it does matter.

OEM & Custom Manufacturing

This is the part that I like. Got a drawing, a sample, a thread spec, a “we need something weird” problem? We can often make it happen. Custom lengths, custom threads, custom hardface, custom anything. I’ve helped customers with parts not in any catalog. That’s when the factory really pays its way.

Thus what does Richdrill HDD produce?

Drill-pipe. Tooljoints. Subs. Crossovers . Reamers. Openers for holes. Pilot bits Heads. Rotates. Drill collars. Centralizers. Aftermarket parts. And yes, a lot of ‘I want it yesterday’ solutions.

But the real answer here, my biggest aha moment after five years: We produce less downtime. 3am phone calls were few. Less “wrong part showed up” headaches. We make the stuff that connects your rig to the ground, and gets your product pipe through.

You, as a long time customer, already know the drill. If new, send me your rig info, soil/rock condition, bore diameter, length, thread type and pullback force. I will tell you honestly what is fitting and if we don’t make it, I will tell you that as well.

Because, after all, I am not selling steel alone. Trying to keep your bunch moving.
